Spelt (Triticum spelta), is a Triticum (wheat) variety of cereal..

It is also known as “Wild Wheat” since it is the original, untreated wheat. There are records about this cereal dating back 7 millennia and it has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the start of agriculture 5 thousand years ago.

It was mainly used for making bread and beer.
Highly rated during the Middle age as the best grain, the most nutritious and easy to digest, it is currently used assiduously in alternative medicine to treat health problems.

  • Nutritionally it is a cereal rich in proteins, containing essential amino acids, minerals (iron, magnesium and phosphorous) and vitamins B1 and B2.
  • It provides more carbohydrates, minerals, proteins and vitamins B1 and B2 than wheat flour.
  • It also stands out for its high fibre content, which is soluble fibre that delays absorption of carbohydrates, and is therefore good for everyone, but particularly for diabetics.
  • It is also an ideal cereal for slimming diets, since it helps to avoid constipation.

At PANUSA we make very tasty, digestive, highly nutritional spelt bread.
